“People got street cred from having the best jacket, the best pair of khakis, the best Adidas,” says Phillip Lim in reference to the defiant youth of his Orange County upbringing. It’s these street nuances that designer Phillip Lim borrows from for his S/S ’15 collection, combining them with elements of scholastic polish. The clothing symbiosis results in a dynamic collection of informal but polished silhouettes with quality details. Tailored trousers crafted from a neoprene-esque stretch knit are accented with silk trims, a recurring paintbrush print brings maximum impact to slim tops, and shorts are reinterpreted like never before with drop panels.

Although we’re always fans of the classic and timeless, what would fashion be without seasonal trends? Boring is what. From the runway to the streets, here are the top trends we’re getting on board with for the Spring/Summer 2015 season.

  1. DENIM

Double up on denim. The Canadian tuxedo is in and who better for the job than Parisian label Pierre Balmain?

  1. TEXTURE

In the colder months it is a no-brainer, in the spring it is refreshingly unexpected. Go with KVA’s suede bomber or Christopher Kane’s Pages tee.

  1. PRINT

From stripes to paisley and everything in between, add visual interest to your look with print. 3.1 Phillip Lim’s vertical stripes caught our eye.

  1. COLOR

Wearing all black in the winter is inevitable; do a 180 in bold, colorful options. KRISVANASSCHE and Raf Simons agree.

Accessory Spotlight: Backpacks from Givenchy, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and McQ

  • Givenchy Backpacks
  • 3.1 Phillip Lim Backpacks
  • McQ Backpacks

If you’re anything like us, you’re constantly on the go and with none other than a backpack hanging over your shoulder. But we’re not talking about classic cotton bags from our school years. Our favorite designers have taken it upon themselves to redefine the notorious carry-all. Givenchy gives us all-black options from two sides of the spectrum. One a sleek street-inspired neoprene leather combination and the other a heavy-duty all leather option featuring the house’s signature Obsedia hardware. For the minimalists, 3.1 Phillip Lim offers a pragmatic but stylish take on a structured backpack in both black and cement grey. While Lim purposely chooses not to add heavy branding to the 31 Hour series, the criss-crossed adjustable straps distinguish the bags. McQ finishes our accessory roundup with an uncomplicated silhouette. Both the coated ombre denim and the color blocked all leather backpack demonstrate thoughtful details.

BENZ’S ARE BETTER – 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring/Summer 2013 Preview

Mercedes-Benz’s slogan is “Das Beste oder nichts” (English: “The best or nothing”). Ours is “Benz’s are better.” With luxury brand 3.1 Phillip Lim, a Benz to drive around in, and a metropolitan city full of both grit and luxury, one can truly say that with a Benz, a good outfit, and a great American city one can have it all.
